HRCS Webinar: Legal Aid Reform Consultation

Monday 24 August 2026
10:00 – 11:30
Online (Zoom)

The Scottish Government is consulting on a new Legal Aid (Scotland) Bill, which aims to modernise Scotland’s legal aid system and create a simpler, more sustainable and user-focused framework for publicly funded legal assistance. The consultation is open until 13 October 2026.

Join HRCS for a webinar exploring the proposed reforms and what they could mean for access to justice in Scotland.

We are delighted to welcome Stewart MacLachlan from Amnesty International UK, who will provide an overview of the consultation, highlighting key concerns, areas of support and Amnesty’s perspective on the proposals. His presentation will be followed by a discussion with HRCS members.

A second speaker will be confirmed shortly.

What to expect

  • An overview of the proposed Legal Aid (Scotland) Bill
  • Key issues and proposals within the consultation
  • Perspectives on the potential impact of the reforms
  • Discussion and Q&A with HRCS members

This webinar is free to attend and is open to all HRCS members.
