Scotland’s Civil Society Network to Defend and Promote Human Rights

We are the civil society network to defend and promote human rights in Scotland.

Our members are from across Scotland. They include groups of many different identities, sizes and who campaign on different issues.

We work together to be a strong collective civil society voice on human rights for all in Scotland.

What we do

We bring people together

We are the key convener of Scottish civil society around human rights. It can be tough defending human rights in isolation – the Consortium enables Human Rights Defenders to work together. We hold events and discussions where people share expertise, insight and support. We enable joint submissions, projects, communications and research.

We work across human rights

Many of our members focus on one issue or rights issue for one group, and we don’t duplicate that. Instead, we work across human rights and identify rights gaps where a collective civil society voice is valuable.

We amplify rights-holders’ voices

Many of our members are groups or individuals who are often ignored, or tirelessly campaign for change that is desperately needed. We create platforms and opportunities for their voices to be heard.

We empower

We create and commission accessible and highly valued resources, updates, research, news and connections around human rights in Scotland. These enable our members to influence effectively.

We always work in partnership

The Consortium is itself a whole network of people and organisations. But we also work closely with many others. We work with partners in Scotland, with our sister Consortium in Northern Ireland, and with many organisations across the UK. For example, Just Fair, Equally Ours, Liberty, WCVA and more.

We influence in Scotland and across UK

We collectively influence decision-makers in Scotland, and also bring Scottish civil voices to defend human rights at Westminster.

We always have hope, we are determined, we are passionate, we are effective.

If you too are committed to the protection and realisation of human rights for all in Scotland, join us.
