Human rights are minimum standards developed to ensure we are all able to lead dignified lives, but we know that poverty and inequality are creating a human rights crisis across Scotland and the UK. Poverty is both a cause and a consequence of human rights failures, and this understanding of poverty has underpinned the work of the Poverty Alliance.
This Challenge Poverty Week, Lydia Murphy from the Poverty Alliance will join us to talk the role of human rights in challenging poverty in Scotland, what it means to take a rights-based approach to poverty - both in policy and practice - and the opportunities presented by a Human Rights Bill for Scotland.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, giving attendees an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues raised.

About the speaker
Lydia Murphy is a Development Officer at the Poverty Alliance, working on the Rights in Action project, Get Heard and facilitating Poverty Alliance’s Community Activist Advisory Group. She supports organisations and activists to use human rights as a tool for change and works to ensure people experiencing poverty can influence the decisions that affect them, in policy and practice.
