Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
The UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was created in 2006. The UK ratified the Convention in 2009.
Compliance with the treaty is monitored by the Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Find out more about the Committee.
UK DDPOs give evidence to UN on progress in August 2023. The UK Government gave evidence to the UN in March 2024. The last response of CRPD Committee to the UK state was in early 2024.
The reporting process
The Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities operates a simplified reporting procedure.
The Committee prepares and adopts Lists of Issues to be transmitted to state parties, and the replies of the State party to this list of issues are deemed to constitute the State party’s report.
Guide for NGO submissions to the CRPD
NGOs may submit both independent shadow reports, and their lists of questions for the Committee to consider when drafting their List of Issues.
A shadow report should start with a section providing up-to-date basic information on the state party.
This should be followed by a critical analysis of the state party report, examining how well the country has implemented the main provisions of the Convention.
