The Council of Europe: A Sales Pitch (Scotland’s Human Rights Festival Event)

What role does the European Court of Human Rights play in protecting our rights, and why does it matter today? This event will provide an accessible introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights and the wider work of the Council of Europe.
Through a series of real-life stories, participants will explore how the Court and the Council of Europe have helped advance rights, justice and dignity across Europe, and the impact these decisions have had on people’s everyday lives. The session will also examine efforts by the Council of Europe to make its work more accessible and relevant to the public, while considering the challenges of increasing public understanding and engagement with human rights.
The event will conclude with an open discussion, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on these issues, share their views and explore how human rights can better connect with communities across Scotland and beyond.
