We are pleased to launch the 2026 HRCS Members Webinar Series with our first session featuring Vanessa Boon, a facilitator and “The Joyful Disruptor” working at the intersection of social change, inclusion, and creative activism.

At a time of significant political change in Scotland, this session offers space to reflect on how activism can adapt and thrive in a shifting landscape. With new dynamics emerging in the Scottish Parliament, members will be considering how to stay effective, connected, and resilient in their work.This interactive session will explore Vanessa’s “The Joyful Disruptor” approach and her five-point framework for creating positive, sustainable change. There will also be time for questions and discussion.
Vanessa Boon, The Joyful Disruptor and Senior Policy & Advocacy Leader at the Equality Trust
Vanessa is known for her inspiring training sessions that empower policymakers and community stakeholders - at both national and local levels - to become changemakers. Her approach fosters co-production and collective action for social change. With over twenty years’ specialist experience in equity and social justice, she brings insights from both in-house roles and consultancy projects across the UK, alongside grassroots activism including to challenge the politics of hate.
She has led the implementation of equality legislation within public authorities and developed impactful Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) strategies and initiatives. Drawing on participatory research, data analysis, and an intersectional approach, she has facilitated Equality Impact Assessments to enhance over 100 public policies. After studying a Master of Research (MRes) Degree in Social Science Research, with a two-year study focused on the Socio-Economic Duty, she joined the Equality Trust team and leads on policy and advocacy, including advising the UK government, and educating stakeholders, on activation of the duty.
A passionate public speaker, grassroots community organiser, youth mentor and advocate for liberation. Vanessa finds joy in nature, craftivism, and helping people to dismantle systemic and internalised oppression, nurturing their inner changemaker.
