HRCS UPR Submission – Member Workshop 1

November 23, 13:00-14:30
Online/Zoom
Human Rights Consortium Scotland is intending to make a submission to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process in 2027.
The UPR is a process through which the human rights records of UN Member States are reviewed. The UK’s most recent review took place in 2022 as part of the fourth UPR cycle, with the UK receiving 302 recommendations. The UK subsequently submitted a Mid-Term Report in 2025 outlining progress against these recommendations.
While the UPR focuses primarily on human rights at UK level, we believe there is an important opportunity to highlight human rights issues in Scotland. This is particularly relevant given the work undertaken to secure a Scottish Human Rights Bill and the commitment to progress this in the Programme for Government.
HRCS is planning to make a submission on behalf of HRCS and our members. We are particularly interested in exploring issues including the Human Rights Bill, migrants’ rights, poverty and other key human rights priorities.
This workshop will be an opportunity for HRCS members interested in being involved to learn more about the UPR process, discuss how we might approach a submission and begin identifying the key issues and priorities we could focus on.
Date: Monday 23 November 2026
Time: 1pm - 2:30pm
Location: Online/Zoom
Who can attend?
This workshop is open to HRCS members only who are interested in contributing to the development of the submission.
