Date: Wednesday 15 October 2025
Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Format: Online via Zoom

About this Session

In this session, we zoom out to explore the international frameworks that underpin human rights in Scotland, from the European Convention on Human Rights to key UN treaties and mechanisms.

We’ll look at how these international instruments shape policy and law in Scotland and the UK, how they influence advocacy and accountability, and why they remain essential in a changing legal and political landscape.

This is an essential session for anyone wanting to understand the bigger picture of human rights obligations - and the global commitments that continue to shape our domestic framework.

Speaker

Eilidh Dickson, Policy and International Officer, Scottish Human Rights Commission.

“Eilidh is the Policy and International Officer at the Scottish Human Rights Commission where she coordinates the SHRC’s international reporting on and supports the NHRI’s work to engage with UN and Council of Europe Treaty Bodies. Since joining the SHRC in 2022, Eilidh has led the SHRC’s engagement with the ICCPR, ICESCR, UNCRPD, UNCERD, Istanbul Convention and the Universal Periodic Review, among others, giving her significant insight into how each body works. Before she joined the SHRC, Eilidh worked in women’s rights and has law degrees from the universities of Aberdeen and Amsterdam.”
