#HumanRights2020s: The Independent Review of the Human Rights Act
Duration: 24:38 | Download (45.1MB)
This episode of the #HumanRights2020s podcast is a recording of a discussion between Professor Nicole Busby of Glasgow University and Naomi McAuliffe, Scotland Programme Director for Amnesty International. They discuss the Human Rights Act, and the potential consequences of the Independent Review currently being carried out on the Act.
As Professor Busby states, "the review is focusing on the relationship between domestic courts and the European Court of Human Rights, and then also the relationship between the judiciary, the executive and the legislature. If you look at the way the review's been framed, it's quite negative, as if there's something wrong with these aspects... As it is, most experts say that the Act operates pretty effectively. It is fit for purpose."
