‘Scotland’s Programme for Government: What does it mean for Human Rights?’ Recordings now available
On 26th September 2024, shortly after the publication of the Scottish Government’s latest Programme for Government, the Consortium brought a panel of experts together to discuss what the Programme means for human rights for the year ahead.
At this virtual panel discussion, over 80 attendees heard from civil society and academic experts about the government’s new commitments and what they could mean for the future of human rights in our country.
Much of the discussion focused on the omission of the promised Scottish Human Rights Bill from the Programme, though there were also inputs on specific issues such as the right to food, environmental rights and children’s rights.
The speakers were:
- Lucy Miller, Policy and Communications Lead, Human Rights Consortium Scotland
- Neil Cowan, Programme Director, Amnesty International Scotland
- Pete Ritchie, Executive Director, Nourish Scotland
- Shivali Fifield, Chief Officer, Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland
- Juliet Harris, Director, Together Scotland (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights)
- Pauline Nolan, Head of Policy and Engagement, Inclusion Scotland
- Rob Gowans, Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland
- Kimberley Wong, Public Affairs and Policy Officer, CRER
- Professor Nicole Busby, University of Glasgow
