New Briefing: Scottish Human Rights Incorporation Bill

The Consortium has produced a new short briefing to introduce newcomers to the Scottish Human Rights Incorporation Bill. The briefing explains the story of the Bill so far, what 'incorporation' means, and why now is the best time to bring international human rights standards directly into Scots law.

In March 2021, the Scottish Government committed to passing a new law, which would bring 4 international human rights treaties (plus extra protections for the right to a health environment) into Scots law. This would make it easier for ordinary people to name and claim their rights. The Government has committed to passing this law by May 2026.
